Type Cause Connectors

1.      AND

Example:

Ø  They saw a cat and a dog.
(Mereka melihat seekor kucing dan seekor anjing)

Ø  He saw a cat, a dog, a mouse, and a rabbit.
(Dia melihat seekor kucing, seekor anjing, seekor tikus, dan seekor kelinci)

2.      BUT

Example:

Ø  I was sleepy but I couldn't sleep.
(Saya mengentuk tetapi saya tidak bisa tidur)

Ø  She is rich but she is stingy.
(Dia kaya tetapi dia pelit)

3.      OR

Example:

Ø  Do you like coffee or tea?
(Kamu suka kopi atau teh?)

Ø  Do you want to go home or stay here?
(Kamu mau pulang atau mau menginap disini?)

4.      SO

Example:

Ø  I have never practice to swim, so I can't swim.
(Saya tidak pernah berlatih berenang sehingga saya tidak bisa berenang)

Ø  I always use email for correspondence, so I rarely write letters for correspondence.
(Saya selalu menggunakan email untuk berkorenspondensi, sehingga saya jarang sekali menulis surat untuk korespondensi)

5.      BECAUSE

Example:

Ø  I called you because I miss you.
(Saya menelpon kamu karena saya merindukanmu)

Ø  She failed the test because she was lazy.
(Dia gagal karena dia malas)

CONNECTORS (Kata Penghubung)

Connectors digunakan untuk menggabungkan dua kalimat/lebih menjadi satu kalimat. Connectors dibagi menjadi 3, yaitu:

1.      Menunjukan waktu: before, after, as soon as, while, when.
a.    We went home after the rain stopped.
b.    I prepare my ticket and passport before I go on holiday to Paris.
c.    I started to look for an apartment as soon as I arrived in this city.
d.    While he was reading her novel, somebody knocked on the door.
e.    I was really sad when I saw a drama movie.

2.      Menunjukan sebab dan akibat: because/because of, since.
a.    I went to the hospital because I had a serious accident.
b.    I went to the hospital because of my serious accident.
c.    Since I have no money, I can’t treat you.

3.      Menunjukan tanda urutan: first, next, then, after that, finally.
a.    first, we must prepare the ingredients.
b.    Next, we cut the vegetables into small pieces.
c.    After that, we put them into frying pan.
d.    Finally, we put some sauce and salt.
